Aston All Saints C of E Primary School
This term, our topic is Chocolate, which I expect ALL the children to thoroughly enjoy! We visited York's Chocolate Story in September, which will help us to create some brilliant work in the classroom (photos of this visit can be found below). Our class book this term will be Roald Dahl's phenomenal and well-loved story, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. From this book, we will create our own stories, newspaper reports, recounts and letters in literacy, in addition to plenty of art, design and technology and science!
NEW Class Dojo!
We now have Class Dojo now set up for parents to join, where messages can be sent back and forth - I will reply as and when I can. I sent the children home on the first day of the school term with information on how to sign up, but if you require another instruction sheet, let me know and I can get you another. I believe that using Class Dojo as a means to communicate with one another is vital, but this won't only be used for communication, it gives me the opportunity to share your child's work with you by being able to post photos or messages directly to their own profile!
For numeracy this term, we are focusing on addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, length and time. We will be working on times tables daily through various activities, such as Maths Zap, Beat the Clock, Big Maths Beat That and singing our times tables to popular pop songs! We want the children to be able to recall our
The school are currently using a fantastic writing scheme called 'The Write Stuff' from Jane Considine, which allows children to understand how to punctuate correctly and ensure their own writing is punctuated and are grammatically correct. We will be creating various genres of writing from newspaper reports to adventure stories.
All our homework links with things we have been doing in class that week. Year 4 will have numeracy, literacy and reading homework, which will alternate on a weekly basis. Homework books and folders have been provided for the children, in which they are responsible for keeping tidy and safe. Homework is set on a Friday and should be returned by the following Wednesday to be marked and given back. If anyone is struggling with the homework, then just ask Mrs Underwood, Mrs Taylor or I for assistance.
Spellings are produced through the school's new system (Read Write Inc). We have daily spelling lessons, where the children work through practice books and online resources, to help improve their spellings. During the week, children will be given 10 spellings to revise, 5 from the Read Write Inc. spelling program and 5 from the Year 4 Spelling List. They will write these spellings in their blue log books, which have been provided to each child. Once again, children are responsible for taking this book home to revise and are prompted to do so on a Wednesday after logging their words.
Your children read aloud beautifully, but understanding the text that they are reading is just as important. Please use the bookmarks provided to help you question your children's understanding of the book they are reading. Every time a child reads, they will receive 3 Class Dojo points. The child who reads the most often will receive a small prize at the end of the week. Once your child has read to you, please make a note in their yellow reading books.
Physical Education (PE)
Our PE lessons will be on Monday and Thursdays, so please make sure your child has
indoor and outdoor kit in school.
Let's have a great year!
